M2D Camo in Action!

Posted on November 1, 2012

Sparky, Loved the M2D pants, shirts, hats and jacket that my son and I used on our hunt on the Canadian prairie this year. The camo worked great. Look at how well this matched on my sons clothes in the first photo (the other guy is not me). In the decoy spread picture you see me (closest) in the M2D camo, but wearing a Max 4 face mask which is obviously too dark. The camo was so good that I did not wear whites when hunting snows, the group agreeing that I hid better in the camo with a decoy on my chest that wearing white.

M2D Camo and Edge by Expedite support Petersons Outdoors Ministries

"Thank you to Edge Innovative hunting products for your support to our wounded warriors hunt with Petersons outdoors ministries. The M2D camo light weight Jacket and hat was greatly appreciated by our guest of honor SGT Robert Duke. It was a great trip for our guest and well worth the road trip from Missouri to northern Ontario they stated. Many great fish were caught and the bear’s were active during the hunt. Many memories were made along with new friendships. Thank you for supporting our troops!"

SSG Joseph Fowler

We just got back from Wyoming where we had a great time, but more importantly were called upon to guide some special folks. I had the honor to guide SSG Joseph Fowler.

"SSG Joseph Fowler served in the Army as a military policeman with his K-9 partner Dak. In December 2005, while deployed in Iraq, Joe's Humvee convoy was in route to a warehouse to sweep a building where elections were being held. Only minutes from their destination, Joe's vehicle struck a hidden anti-tank mine. Joe was blown, on fire, 60-80 through the air and landed, in oncoming traffic lanes. The blast killed one other solider and Joe's K-9 partner Dak. After undergoing 20 surgeries, suffering third degree burns to 54% of his body, a fractured ankle, a fractured wrist, dislocated elbow and mild brain injury, Joe survived the incident.

Joe was recently invited to participate in the Old West Invitational Turkey Hunt held in Hulett, Wyoming. Joe is an avid outdoorsman, but had never harvested a turkey. For the two day hunt, Joe was paired with celebrity guide and M2D Camo pro-staffer Joel Pile. The first morning of the hunt, Joe was successful in harvesting a nice Merriam's turkey (his first turkey)."

M2D Camo Downunder

Posted on June 27th, 2012

You can see why I recognised instantly that M2D is ideal for our grasslands.

If you look closely, I think you will agree the balaklava style is a bit better than the hat and face mask.

However, I think the head and shoulders outline in both cases could be better disguised.

By this I mean, whether one uses the hat or the balaklava, a face mask should come from the top of the head out to the shoulders more or less directly so as to disguise the head and shoulders upper body outline.

One thing I do is attach the elastic of the face mask to the back of the hat brim against the head so that the elastic sits on top of the ears to hold the mask up more securely and closer to the eyes.

Another idea I have is for the trouser side pockets.

I find the pockets could be deeper towards the back so that things like shotgun cartridges are less able to fall out when in a crouching or sitting down position.

M2D Camo and an Ohio Turkey

I about forgot to send these to you. Don't know if you can use them but here they are. Two Ohio birds in two days. Both birds had no idea I was even in the county. M2D is MADE TO DECEIVE even the wariest eyes in the woods. The one that is all beat up {nice looking tail fan right?? :)} walked right down a fence row to give me a 25 yard shot!!

Hunters find their calling

Posted on May 3rd, 2012

Back in their school days in Lebanon, two neighbor boys developed a love for hunting and a long friendship. It was only natural that Alex Carr and Matt Burtin were friends since their fathers and grandfathers were longtime friends and the two youngsters lived just two houses away from each other.

Today those hunting buddies have taken another step in helping other hunters find success. Although they both keep busy in other businesses, they turned their passions for turkey hunting into a venture by manufacturing turkey calls that that are gaining in popularity among other hunters.

They named their new business Commando Hunting Products and it’s located in Bolivar.

“I had always been a fan of the Military Channel and I liked their logo,” Carr said. “Then we got our advertising and marketing guy who also liked the name Commando because it was a universal word that anyone would recognize.”

The new hunting calls have been featured on radio and television shows and have attracted attention from hunting celebrities.

The First Lady of Hunting, Brenda Valentine, has added her support by commissioning Burtin and Carr to manufacture her personalized turkey call, “Sweet Talk.” Valentine and Carr, who is in charge of production for Commando, spent hours designing and perfecting the call.

Burtin, who heads up the marketing end of the business, said, “We recently signed country music singer Daryle Singletary to our pro staff. Singletary is an avid hunter.”

The pair of turkey hunting enthusiast started working on their calls seven years ago. “It took about a year to develop the call. I got a challenge from a hunting buddy to make a call with interchangeable lids and it took about a year before it really sounded good,” Carr said.

James Davidson of Springfield is a turkey hunter who saw the Commando call and said, “I was happy to see a good product that is made locally. It’s got to be a rare thing anymore.”

Last weekend, the “Backwoods Bloodline” TV show, which airs on the Sportsman Channel, came to Lebanon to do a film with Carr and Burtin. However, as turkey hunters know, the weather can mess up a day in the turkey woods, as well as an early season this spring. That was the case last Saturday: No turkeys.

Backwoods Bloodline is the kind of show that is about family, friends having fun in the outdoors and passing on the hunting tradition to children who will enjoy hunting for years to come.

Not only do Burtin and Carr, plus their pro staff, encourage hunters to use their products, but they also try to get more people — especially youngsters — introduced to the outdoors. Both men have children who hunt turkeys: Carr has two boys and a girl while Burtin has two girls.

“We like to promote hunting for our youth because they are the future of our sport,” Carr said.

Commando Hunting Products and M2D Camo have worked together on many occasions and developed a great business partnership as well as a wonderful friendship. Commando Hunting Products owners Alex Carr, far left, and Matt Burtin, far right, participated in the filming of a TV segment for “Backwoods Bloodline” with Dave Henry, second from left, and Dennis Redden in the Top Image. Marshall MacFarlane the "Desert Rat" Blogs about M2D Camo

Posted on March 26th, 2012

Having an outdoor website, I’m on a ton of mailing lists. Some I pay more attention to than others. Sparky from M2D Camo is always sending me cool stuff. From deep sea fishing trips, to monster trucks, to hunting all over North America – it’s always something worth looking at. The nice thing is it’s not a constant stream of sales pitches. Rather, it’s Sparky and his staff and customers, doing neat stuff; granted they are usually using his camo, but that’s OK!

Recently he sent a video that I thought was worth sharing. His camo is shown in a variety of different settings, in different levels of light and I gotta tell you, it really does seem to change with the conditions!

Have a look for yourself:

By the way, M2D stands for “Made to Deceive” – looks like it might do a pretty good job of that! I have watched M2D for a couple of years now, and it is clear they are slowly and surely gaining ground. They keep getting a little bigger and a little more widespread, all the time. I had an interesting interview with Sparky awhile back. You can read it here: Interview with Sparky Sparkes of M2D Camo

Shawn Kuszak's M2D Camo Success

Posted on January 31, 2012

I was just recently at an outdoor show here in Topeka, Kansas at the expocenter. I visited your booth there and spoke with the rep. for about 20 min. I ended up buying one of your shirts and hats from him. I asked him after I bought this would this guarantee me a fist full of ducks tomorrow. He laughed and said to email some pics of the hunt. Well the camo worked great. I shot my first ever Canvesback! We ended up with 2 drake cans and a hen plus 6 ringnecks. What a great hunt. Thanks for the great gear!
